Most recently, German airline Lufthansa announced that it will part ways with 4,000 employees by 2030. In a statement from the company, the reason given for the layoffs was the expected increase in digitalization and the use of artificial intelligence, particularly in administrative services.
The Munich-based company stated, "The layoffs will mainly affect those in administrative roles rather than operational roles. The increasing use of digitalization and artificial intelligence will lead to greater efficiency in many areas and processes."
Lufthansa, which has been struggling with excessive costs for a long time, has not yet returned to its pre-coronavirus pandemic efficiency levels.
Lufthansa has approximately 103,000 employees in Germany.
