Did Venice’s daytripper taxe ease overtourism this summer?

1 min read

On the busiest day, 25,000 visitors paid the daytripper fee, a striking number equivalent to over half the resident population.

This year, a total of 723,497 visitors paid Venice’s daytripper fee, resulting in a revenue of €5,421,425. This year, 51 per cent of visitors booked in advance and paid the €5 fare. The remaining 49 per cent paid the last-minute €10 fare.

“Initial data, though still provisional, show a mature system capable of providing initial responses to the objectives of regulating tourist flows and ensuring fair contributions between overnight stays and day visitors,” Venice’s city council said in a statement.

The daily average number of visitors who paid the daytripper fee was only slightly less than last year, at 13,046 in 2025 compared to 16,676 in 2024.

As the city council itself acknowledges, this is also in line with a region-wide decline in tourist numbers recorded by the Regional Statistics Office. (Euronews)
