DRV President Norbert Fiebig: “Germany needs attractive, affordable flight connections - for people, markets and prosperity”
Air traffic in Germany is clearly lagging behind developments in other European countries. "Germany is being decoupled from the growth of air traffic in Europe. The resulting deterioration in connectivity for important economic regions in Germany and Europe has negative consequences for the industrial and business location as a whole. Countermeasures must be taken here," commented ADV President Aletta von Massenbach. Instead of excessive taxes, levies and regulations, we need relief for a competitive, strong aviation industry and thus also for Germany as a business location.
Together with strong partners such as the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Düsseldorf Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Osnabrück-Emsland-Grafschaft-Bentheim Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Berlin Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the Berlin-Brandenburg Aviation Initiative and the German Travel Association (DRV), the German Airports Association (ADV) has analyzed the development of air traffic in Germany. The importance of good air traffic connections is examined from various perspectives.
Air traffic is one of the most important economic sectors in Germany. In total, around 1.5 million jobs are directly or indirectly supported by the aviation industry - including aviation-related tourism. The economic significance of this industry is enormous: it contributes over 142 billion euros to Germany's economic output, which corresponds to around 3.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
