A tourist trip in China ended in disaster. In Qianxi city of Guizhou province, 10 people died when 4 boats carrying a total of 84 tourists capsized due to strong winds in a river yesterday. According to state media, 70 of the 74 rescued people were transferred to hospital for treatment.
Chinese President Xi Jinping instructed provincial authorities to “use all means at their disposal”, while around 500 rescue workers were mobilized to the region. Xi also said authorities should increase safety measures to prevent the increasing number of accidents in tourist areas and large public spaces.
