1 min read

The seismic activity in the Greek islands in the Aegean islands will last for a long time and there is a risk of a bigger earthquake.

Efthimios Lekkas, President of the Hellenic Anti-Earthquake Authority (OASP), said that the seismic activity between Santorini and Yamurgi islands will last for a long time and there is a risk of a bigger earthquake. Lekkas said, “Seismic activity is a long process that can last weeks or even months. This kind of seismic activity does not end easily.”

Lekkas noted that Santorini Island has grown unplanned in the last 30 years and illegal construction has reached serious dimensions. “Santorini was formed as a result of natural processes such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, landslides and erosion. Today, human intervention is causing these natural processes to turn into disasters.”
