The new tourist tax, which will be limited to seven consecutive days, is scheduled to come into force in 2026.
From Euronews, Edinburgh is set to become the first city in Scotland to introduce a tax on tourists after the Scottish government authorized local authorities to introduce visitor fees.
Edinburgh city council has approved a proposal called the 'Temporary Visitor Levy' to be introduced in 2026.
The fee, set at five percent of accommodation costs, is expected to bring in £50 million (approximately 2 billion Turkish Lira) a year, which will be used for improvements in the city.
However, some tourism operators are concerned that this will drive travelers away from the destination.
