UEFA EURO 2024 generates economic ımpact of Over €7.44 billion in Germany

2 min read

According to a report on UEFA's official website, a study conducted by Nielsen Sports highlights the significant positive economic and social impact of the tournament on the host country and cities.

According to a comprehensive study carried out by Nielsen Sports, the economic impact of UEFA EURO 2024 on Germany and the ten host cities reached €7.44 billion. More than 90% of this amount came from the expenditures of 2.7 million ticket holders (44% of whom were from abroad), organizers, and accredited individuals, as well as related indirect and induced economic effects. The most significant expenses were for accommodation, travel to the host cities, local transportation, and food and beverage costs inside and outside the stadiums. The study also revealed that nearly two-thirds of ticket holders used public transportation in the host cities.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said, “UEFA EURO 2024 was an outstanding tournament in Germany, offering an unforgettable experience for all participants. The football was superb, the fans were satisfied, and as this report clearly shows, the tournament had a significant economic and social impact on the host country. This proves that major sporting events are not just a victory for the football community, but for society as a whole. We eagerly anticipate UEFA EURO 2028 in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, and UEFA EURO 2032 in Italy and Turkey.”

German Football Association (DFB) President Bernd Neuendorf added, “This study impressively proves that UEFA EURO 2024 created widespread positive effects in the ten cities and across the country. It not only provided great matches and an incredible atmosphere in the stadiums, but it was also an economic and social success. Thirty-six years after EURO 1988 and 34 years after the peaceful reunification, Germany has once again proven itself to be a football-loving nation, a welcoming host, and a reliable partner in organizing major sporting events.”
